Quest Nutrition just gets me. It’s like they know how I struggle to meet my daily protein requirements amid my crazy schedule, and they continually step up to the plate with new flavors and new products to help me meet my goals. I’m a big fan of Quest protein bars and protein chips, so of course I was looking forward to sampling the new Quest Hero Bars.
I purchased one of each of the newly released flavors–Blueberry Cobbler, Vanilla Caramel, and Chocolate Caramel Pecan–at my local Vitamin Shoppe.
What’s the verdict? Honestly, they’re pretty darn good. In my opinion, these actually surpass the regular Quest bars. These Quest Hero Bars taste really good (for real–like I can actually see myself craving one, not just because, say, I’ve been on a contest prep diet for 16 weeks and would eat a piece of cardboard with frosting on it, given the chance). Perhaps my favorite thing about them is their satisfying variety of textures–a chewy protein core is layered with caramel (blueberry flavored in the delicious Blueberry Cobbler version) and enrobed in a white or dark chocolatey coating. I’m a sucker for texture and these Hero Bars nail it.
Flavorwise, they’re not too sweet, and I didn’t experience an aftertaste. The Hero Bars contain allulose, an uncommon sugar that appears naturally in fruits like figs and raisins. Although allulose tastes like regular sugar, it’s nearly non-caloric, so it doesn’t contribute a ton of carbs. In fact, these bars have only 4 grams of net carbs though they pack between 15 and 17 grams of protein. (For complete nutrition information, click here.)
Although I wouldn’t suggest tossing your oatmeal to the winds and eating a Quest Hero Bar for breakfast, I would definitely suggest that you try these as an alternative to candy bars or other sugary desserts and treats. These are tasty enough to satisfy a sweet tooth plus they contribute protein to your diet.
I’m going to use these to round out my lunches (you’ll be a hero if you stick one of these in your honey’s lunch box) and satisfy my occasional post-dinner cravings for dessert. Give them a try and let me know what you think!
