Blueberry Muffin Quest Bar Review

The blueberry muffin holds a special place in my heart. When I was a kid, during summer vacations, my family took the occasional outing to a nearby Dunkin’ Donuts (which was a prolific chain by our New England summer home) for refreshing beverages and some baked goods to accompany them. My overindulgent carb-bomb of choice was the heavenly sugar-topped blueberry muffin. Looking back on these memories washes me with a glorious sense of nostalgia as well as some gratitude that the colossal pastries never gave me diabetes.

To this day, the Dunkin’ Donuts blueberry muffin remains my gold standard of fruit-based baked goods. When I heard that Quest Nutrition was going to release a blueberry-muffin flavored bar, the sugar-addicted 10-year-old within me did backflips of joy.

So, how does this bar stack up to my beloved classic?

Surprisingly, not too far off the mark. The bar contains real freeze-dried blueberries, which are definitely the highlight. The weakest part of this new flavor is the “muffin” chunks, which seem to be just recycled grahm chunks from the s’mores flavor.

The crunchy, crumbly pieces aren’t a deal breaker, but they definitely don’t conjure up a fluffy, moist muffin. (TWSS?) The bar base does taste like a muffin, with a hint of cinnamon, and is like most other Quest bars–delightfully chewy, if perhaps a bit pasty once masticated by junkfood-craving jaws.

Overall, I say this bar passes. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not quite on par with the god-tier pastries of my youth (it’s a protein bar after all), but it’s close enough to conjure up fond memories of sugar-hazed midsummer muffin runs.
